Continuing MEDIA ARTS Center San Diego’s long tradition of nurturing emerging filmmakers through our year-long digital media programming and services, this year’s 21st Annual San Diego Latino Film Festival includes a  first-ever CAREER EXPO featuring Funding Opportunities, Networking Mixers, Hands-On Workshops, Local Filmmaker Spotlight Screenings & Panel Discussions. GET YOUR PROJECT ON PBS – PITCH SESSIONS – FREE!

Have a project you feel is suitable to submit to PBS; a proposal to LPB’s Public Content Media Fund; want to partner with a local PBS station; or need feedback from funders and filmmakers? Come and pitch your idea to us! Screen a trailer and get feedback before submitting it anywhere. Join us for: GET YOUR PROJECT ON PBS – PITCH SESSION. SHORT FILM WEEKEND BOOTCAMPS (Producing A Short Film)

March 15, 16, 22, & 23

Co-presented by Film Consortium San Diego

Prepping you for weekend film competitions such as 48-Hr & more! Instructed by Jodi Cilley (Film Consortium San Diego, UCSD Extension Digital Arts Center). 4 hands-on intensive workshops over four days cover all you need to know to produce your own short film! Classes include: Screenwriting (Saturday, March 15, 10am-2pm) / Pre Production (Sunday, March 16, 10am-2pm) / Film Production (Saturday, March 22, 10am-2pm) / Post Production/Distribution (Sunday, March 23, 10am-2pm). LATINOS IN TV Spotlight & Panel Discussion

Saturday, March 15, 10am at Digital Gym CINEMA in North Park.

Special guests Frankie J. Alvarez (HBO’s Looking) and Jose Yenque (LostMiss Bala) will join moderator Bel Hernandez (Latin Heat Magazine) for an unmissable discussion about Latino representation in the television industry and entertainment business at large. HBO’s U.S. LATINO FILMMAKERS RECEPTION

This intimate reception is a chance to mingle w/ HBO, LPB and other industry execs; plus, many visiting filmmakers/actors from across Latin America, Mexico, San Diego – Baja California Region, and U.S. Appetizers, drinks, live music, & networking opportunities! FRONTERA FILMMAKERS Film Showcase

Monday, March 17, 6:00 PM

Annual showcase of short films by Baja California and San Diego filmmakers. Talented filmmakers in the San Diego/Tijuana border region share their vision of the world with awe-inducing short narratives and documentaries. These films open our eyes to new experiences; whether it’s a difficult decision regarding the health of a loved one, or an inside look at New Mexico’s chile industry; all are captured by gifted local film artists.  Shorts to be screened include: Adverso (Dir. FISCAL SPONSORED Projects

Each year MEDIA ARTS Center San Diego is the fiscal sponsor for numerous film/video/media projects. At this year’s film festival, we are proud to spotlight two of them: 18 Bakers (Andrew Bracken) & Declare Yourself A Winner: Stories from the Latino Community (Yvette Lopez Cooper). Declare Yourself a Winner will be celebrated during the film festival at a special reception and screening of Josefina Lopez’ Detained in the Desert, on Tuesday, March 18 at 7:30pm. 18 Bakers will be interviewing attendees of this year’s film festival at the movie theater, gathering stories and perspectives of living on the Border.
